VHIR hosts a meeting to advance data governance and modeling in the TRUSTroke project

The project aims to promote the use of artificial intelligence in stroke treatment by improving data management, transparency, and clinical follow-up of patients.

On March 10–11, 2025, the Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) in Barcelona hosted a pivotal meeting for the EU-funded TRUSTroke project, which aims to enhance stroke treatment through artificial intelligence (AI). The gathering focused on advancing data governance and modeling within the project.

The first day, held at Eurecat, concentrated on harmonizing key clinical endpoint variables and integrating them into AI models under Work Package 4. Discussions included technical planning and agreements on handling predictive variables, incorporating clinical insights from Dr. Marta Rubiera of VHIR and remote input from Italy's Policlinico Gemelli, coordinator of the clinical study in Work Package 6.

On the second day at VHIR, participants toured the Stroke Unit at Vall d’Hebron University Hospital to gain firsthand understanding of stroke care processes. Subsequently, a session at VHIR's new research building focused on harmonizing follow-up variables and integrating them with the Nora Health platform. The meeting concluded with planning for the next steps in harmonization and predictive model development for the chronic phase of stroke.

Additionally, during the same week, consortium partners Nora Health and Nacar Design met to discuss design aspects and technical implications for the project's mobile follow-up application. Nacar Design conducted user experience surveys with patients and caregivers, leading to recommendations aimed at improving the app's usability and facilitating clinical follow-up.

These collaborative efforts mark significant progress in establishing a reliable and standardized data ecosystem, essential for developing AI models to improve stroke treatment and patient adherence during home-based follow-up.
